A man who needs little introduction, Logan Sama has been amongst grime's key players for over a decade. Through his shows on Kiss FM and Rinse Fm, and his own site KeepinItGrimy launched 2014, Logan has been invaluable in advancing both the careers of many artists and the scene itself onto wider audiences. His dedication is relentless, his passion and energy infectious, and as we catch him in the weeks prior to his performance at Motion he stresses how ‘there’s a wealth of talent right now, past what you get shown every day from the same three or four names.’ Listing us ten tracks that have been catching fire the past few summer months, here are Logan Sama's freshest new cuts, 'from legends that are making consistently great music, to future stars who are exciting us with something we’ve never heard before.'
Wiley - Wickedest MC Alive
Wiley is just finishing up his #8 project. 8 singles in 8 weeks and they have ALL been sick. This was the first one and it's important because it's the first track wiley has produced for himself in years.
Izzie Gibbs - Swear Down
One of the other new faces you may not have heard as much about, but Izzie Gibbs has a ton of talent. This track is a very strong single with a catchy hook and that classic sounding production.
Mez - Old School
Mez is going to be big in Grime for a very long while. He is reminiscent of many old school legends but has his own distinctive style with it. He's one of the most exciting of the new generation of MCs in a live environment too.
Bossman Birdie ft Skepta & Meridian Dan - Wristbands
Right now Bloodline are smashing it with consistently big singles released one after the other. Meridian Dan and Milli Major have had a good year but it is personally exciting for me to see Bossman Birdie coming out with tracks as big as this one.
Bugzy Malone - Watch Your Mouth
By now everyone has to recognise that Grime is not just a London thing anymore. Bugzy Malone exploded onto the scene this year and has built up an enormous fanbase. Multiple videos hitting 2 million views in the matter of months. He is a real force to be reckoned with in Grime and he is definitely flying the flag for Manchester.
Lay Z ft Frisco & JME - Thats What Im On
Lay Z has always had talent but as his name suggests he hasnt consistently been working to showcase it. He has a strong back catalogue though that you should check out. This new single produced by Teddy and featuring BBK members Frisco and JME is sick.
Footsie - On This Ting
Newham Generals should get a Grime MBE or something. Their services to Grime are uncountable. Always dropping new music and touring, you can rely on Footsie and Dee to keep it Grimy. This new track's video was actually shot while Foots was on tour in Australia.
Merky Ace - Cuss Match
Merky Ace was part of a generation of Grime MCs that came through at a time when ambition and expectations were very clouded. Tinie Tempah was going worldwide and selling millions. Dizzee had just got 3 number 1s on his own label. The push to mainstream was very strong. But Merky's crew Family Tree stuck to their own style of Grime and kept it real. This one is from a new project entirely produced by Footsie.
Saf One ft Pressure, Trilla & Bomma B - She Wants A Man From Brum
One of the first crews to really make people stand up and recognise out of London talent were Stay Fresh. Saf One has become a legendary figure in Birmingham with his following. 'Man From Brum' is an anthem for Birmingham residents and has already started going viral online.
Grim Sickers ft MIK - 200 Bags
Grim Sickers has had a strong 18 months since his LOTM showing. The Swindon MC has been very active both recording and with live appearances. Linking up with Family Tree's MIK, this track ups the levels from 100 bags by doubling up. Great fun and sick bars. There's a nang Zeph Ellis (fka Dot Rotten) remix too.
Catch Logan Sama in Bristol - alongside Ghetts, Big Narstie, Joker and Buggsy - at The Blast Summer BBQ, Saturday 1 August, Motion. Tickets can be found here.
