There's a million reasons to be excited about Brazil at the moment. If you're able to sideline the incoming sporting pandemonium and the ceaseless carousel of carnival activity then Rio's Pearls Negras could be your final gem of jamboree rumpus. Having just inked a deal with Bolabo records, their video for 'Guerreira' (above) sees the trio of teenagers strutting the coastline of the beaches that surround their favela against a trap-laden production which is just as fierce as it is playful.
Their recent 'Biggie Apple' mixtape is the sound of a place that is dangerous but full of colour. It's a dichotomy the girls ride heavy with. Their flow channels the schoolyard sparring that races through the slums while maintaing a level of organic carnival sheen. As eyes turn to Rio's big budget theatrics in the coming months, you can be safe in the knowledge that an equal amount of vivacity is breaking through the concrete from the underground.
