This was always going to win my personal award for best album of the year. Bwana was already a name being whispered around with a few releases but then he stamped his authority on the world of music with Capsule’s Pride. It’s moody, ambient, thumping, transcendent, moving and beautiful all folded into an eight song ensemble. But the stroke of genius comes with the sample’s from Katsuhiro Otomo’s 1988 masterpiece Akira. It’s what envelops the whole piece with emotion and passion; a fitting piece to pay homage to an anime classic. Favourite songs off the album? Has to be between The Colonel's Mistake, The Scientist's Regret for its bouncy, infectious beat layered under two vocal repetitions which amalgamate into dancefloor vengeance; or K&K (Lovers In the Light) for it's ability to conjure the aforementioned emotion from Akira tantalisingly well, conveying both struggle and redemption you find in Akira. It is the best release of the year I say, and worthy to sit high on any list.
