Solange Knowles has fallen in with a good crowd and it has paid dividends. After so long seeming to drift in and out of focus. Her new seven track EP ‘True’ is a collaborative storm in a teacup, from which she emerges with glorious independence. Produced by multi-faceted socialite Dev Hynes, not only does the EP never wear thin but it features truly some glorious moments. Key to this, is the unorthodox decision to round the project off with seven tracks. This doesn’t just give you a taste of Solange’s prowess, but allows a full course - just before you over indulge. The EP’s strongest track, the sensibly chosen lead single ‘Losing You’, captures all of these flavours, clattering maniacally until Solange’s glassy vocals coat the chaos with a commanding glamour that none of her previous work could have indicated. The next step will most probably be a full album, for which Solange will most likely need to extend her vision to some extent. But for now we can bask in the glow. Solange is finally, a fully formed creature. Listen to her roar.
